Background
The root of this project comes from me being lucky enough to own the original wooden version of this boat, built from mahogany on oak frames. She is believed to have been built circa 1950 in a boat yard local to Southampton, sharing some lines with the Itchen Ferry design of boats.
Who knows?!
Anyhow, I bought the boat in a sorry state after she had broken her mooring and sunk in the River Hamble!
After some TLC and a refit, five years of fun and fantastic days on the water ensued for my family and friends. ‘What a boat!’ as she was described by many.
We always felt she could do more…
But, Mahogany! A great timber, but with an aversion to fresh water! Following over fifty years of life, work and play, she has unfortunately reached the end of her NATURAL life.
Fresh water entering her seams over the past 70 years has taken its toll. So, what now, surely this couldn’t be the end for this fantastic boat?
Take moulds and reproduce her in GRP, seemed the logical answer!!!!
From this, we can build you a complete modern boat based on this old classic, or we can just supply you a hull for you to fit out to your own requirements – and anything in between!
… and so she does more – a simple workboat, or an understated launch of some standing!
