Jim Vintner has been working in the marine and yachting industry for over twenty five years and has a truly unmatched expertise. He founded Yachtwork is 2013.
For twelve years he was the yard and project manager for one of the UK’s South Coast’s leading repair and refit companies. Overseeing damage and accident repair on every type of vessel imaginable. He is an expert in collision and accidental damage as well as fire, osmosis and mechanical issues – be it manufacturer defects or post-warranty failures.

His expertise in repair and refit is unrivalled bringing a unique set of skills to all areas of surveying. His is well known for his no-nonsense approach and ensuring outstanding results all round. He is called to work and instruct customers in every corner of the globe. There is no other marine surveyor who has had 12 years hands experience in a repair and refit yard. He is widely respected in this field.

Jim has not only been a Captain and Engineer on luxury yachts but also a sailing instructor on the ever-changing waters of the Solent. He has an understanding of all types of vessels from traditional wooden sailing boats through to Luxury Modern motor yachts.

Jim not only leads the Yachtwork surveying team, but also oversees the company’s project management and marine consultancy. He regularly assists with insurance companies’ team training on how to optimise their marine surveying and claims management processes.

Jim Hirst recently retired from 24 years at the helm of his own repair and refit yard in Hamble on the South Coast of England. It was and remains one of the most respected repair yards in the marine industry.

During these 24 years he has seen, assessed and fixed more damaged boats than he cares to remember, and has built a reputation in the industry for professionalism and unbiased expertise. Jim started as a specialist in Osmosis treatment, but quickly became an expert in all forms of damage and wear, from GRP and composite structures to wooden and steel hulls.

After retiring as director of his own company he has joined Yachtwork as an associate surveyor. Bringing with him his unique experience in the marine repair industry. He has worked closely with insurance professionals and understands their exacting requirements. He is widely trusted as a provider of fair and efficient assessment of works required and route to repair.
